Feedlot operator new Director on MCPA

The MCPA’s newest Director is Brad McDonald who decided to let his name stand at last fall’s District 3 fall meeting. Marcel Gousseau, who sat on the Board for a term, decided not to run again because he felt he didn’t have enough time to devote to the position.

Brad attended the MCPA’s Annual General Meeting and was welcomed to his first Board meeting in early January.

Brad and his wife Janey own a feedlot and grain farm six miles north of Portage la Prairie, two miles from Delta beach. They farm in partnership with Brad’s brother Lyle and his wife Melody.

They turn the cattle over twice a year in the custom backgrounding lot they run, feeding mostly for customers from Quebec and Ontario. Brad takes care of the cattle end of the operation while Lyle looks after the grain, but during busy times their duties overlap.

Brad has been feeding cattle for nine years since returning home after obtaining his Agribusiness Degree at the University of Brandon.

When asked why he decided to become a Director with the MCPA, he said:
“I’ve been attending the meetings for a few years and realized that the MCPA deals with a lot more issues than one would think,” he said. “I enjoy talking to people and I want to get a better feel for the industry that you don’t get from just being on the farm.”
Brad sits on the MCPA’s Animal Health and Production Management committees.
