Get ready for this year's Grazing School

Another banner Grazing School is planned for November 25th and 26th at the Keystone Center in Brandon, Manitoba.

Focussing on risk management, this year’s agenda will feature another round up of entrepreneurs, experts and leading edge producers to guide you in the right direction.

“It’s hard to imagine we can top last year’s 10th anniversary,” says Pam Iwanchysko, Chairperson of Grazing School, “but we have a whole host of presenters who will not only entertain us, they will help us identify ways we can make the most money from our operation.”

“We have some exciting speakers lined up including Wendy Mesley, CBC’s host of Marketplace - the award winning prime time investigative consumer show; and stand-in for the CBC National News. Wendy brings an informed and humorous perspective on the “truth.”

As well, business leader, John Cross from Saskatoon has a presentation packed with ideas on leadership, initiative, attitude, entrepreneurship and wealth creation. John is the founding president of the POS Pilot Plant (a research and analytical services organization specializing in bio-fuels), Vice President of Agri-Vision Corporation, Board member of the Royal University Hospital Foundation and Fytokem Products Inc., and Chair of Saskatoon & Region Economic Development Authority.

“We’ve got many speakers who will stretch our participants, as well as those who provide a down to earth, practical aspect,” commented Wayne Digby, Executive Director of Manitoba Forage Council. “One example is Lorne Kleine, Saskatchewan Forage Specialist who has developed a calculator to compare the costs of different feeding scenarios such as buying hay, bale grazing on your own field versus a particular site, growing hay, hauling home and out for winter.”

The Grazing School committee has also brought in guests to discuss how to calculate stocking rates, incorporate winter watering systems, transition to organics, and how to utilize low cost feeding systems.

On Tuesday evening following the banquet, renowned pianist, Martin Janovsky from the Prague, Czech Republic will tinkle the ivories and entertain all with his high energy performance.

As always, stay tuned for the crowning of the “Graziers of the Year.” These leading edge producers will be recognized for their innovative style and business savvy.
